Ryanair Portugal strike Sunday, 1 April, 2018. Passengers left basically stranded. Next flight out available on Ryanair is Tuesday or Wednesday. Next strike is Wednesday, 4th April. Crews came in from Spain and Eindhoven to cover flights. All will be investigated.

If leaving from any Portuguese airport get to the airport early, a lot earlier than usual. You don't want to get caught behind long queues and miss your flight.

10 August 2017 Announced yesterday, SATA Air Azores and Azores Airline crews will strike every day from this Friday every time management breaks rules and regulations. Mainly, flight crews sometimes have no idea if they are coming home for the night. (Crew shortages).
Regarding strike next week, 23 - 26 August, company has stopped selling tickets two days before and after strike action, protecting passengers from over booking. Best stay in close contact with this people morning, afternoon and evening. Call before going to the airport.

AIRPORT SECURITY STRIKE
Saturday 29 April, 2017 Portuguese airport security, Union of Aviation Workers and Airports (Sitava), Prosegur and Securitas company workers threaten strike action between May 13 -17th at all Portuguese airports.
This includes Azores and Madeira May 12th and 13th May when the Pope visits Fatima shrine.
May 13 -17, 2017 union is arranging 24 hour strikes.
Get to your Portuguese airport at least three hours early. Bring minimum hand luggage to get through customs fast. Stay in close contact with your airline.
This is an old dispute which has been going on what seems like for years. Hopefully cooler heads will prevail at the last minute and knock sense into them.
Don't expect news out till 24 hours before strike action is to take place. We will update on either here or Easy Travel Report

Update:-Monday 1 May, 2017 Various numbers out for SATA flight cancellations today we will go with the worst.
11 flights canceled today over the network. 15 delayed 2 cancelled in Lisbon today, so far? 100% participation by workers. Not looking good for tomorrow.
Weather today also causing delays www.tsf.pt reporting, Horta/Flores/Horta connection a flight scheduled under the minimum service decree.
Azores Airlines Lisbon/Pico returned to Lisbon due to weather and rescheduled for Tuesday.

It’s not just flight attendants, reservations, and ground crews.

Monday April 3, 2017 Announced today The Union of Aviation Workers and Airports (SITAVA) announce partial strikes over Easter.
Easter Sunday is the 16th.
Strikes to take place between Thursday 13 and Easter Monday 17th April.
Two hour strikes daily at the beginning of shift. (Perhaps 3 shifts a day?)
On the Thursday, 13th 11:30am - 2pm. Just in time to mess with Easter travelers.
Airports effected Porto, Funchal and Porto Santo. Regardless of your airport leave early to get through security so you don't miss your flight. Lisbon and Porto on the Thursday, 13th workers will strike 11:30am - 2pm.
Ports will also be affected. Issue over wages, has been going on for a year or more.

July 1, 2016 Good news, TAP reported late last night that strike had been cancelled.
June 9, 2016 Portuguese baggage handlers will strike July, 1, 2 and 3 nationwide.
Union involved SITAVA, handling companies to be involved Groundforce, Portway, out sourced workers and temps. 5,000 workers in this sector 1,300 in SITAVA union.

15 August 2012 Today across Portugal a baggage handlers strike by 850 workers who work for ground handling company Portway and service Lisbon, Faro, Porto and Funchal airports. The news reports that only one flight has been delayed from Lisbon an Orbest flight.

Update:-28 June Airport Gods are with you this week. Portuguese air traffic controllers and airport workers have cancelled strike planned for this week replaced with negotiations. You got lucky perhaps, others not so well as TAP alone cancelled 150 flights in preparations, costing them a bundle. Still TAP and SATA Airlines pilots threaten strikes for next month.
